When you are ready to buy new software, you need to head to a source that you can trust. Otherwise, you leave yourself open to being fooled by a counterfeit version of the software you need. There are many reasons to carefully choose a trusted source when purchasing new software. Consider some consequences that may occur when you find out the hard way that you cannot trust every software vendor.
1. You may be missing some of the features of the genuine software
If you buy a counterfeit program, you may find that some of the features that you expect are not there. The result is that you are not getting the most for your money. If you want access to all the features that come with the genuine software, make sure you buy from a trusted source.
2. You won’t get software support
Counterfeit software does not come with the benefit of customer support. Only licensed programs allow customers access to help for technical issues. Even software that you know how to use may present problems at some point, so you need to be able to get technical help, which is easy when you buy genuine software.
3. You face the possibility of getting into trouble with the law
If you end up with a counterfeit copy of a program, and try to get customer support for it, you may end up in legal trouble if the manufacturer finds out that your copy is not genuine. Unless you can prove you did not know that the software wasn’t legitimate, you may be targeted for a lawsuit by the manufacturer. This is especially true if it is believed that you stole or illegally copied the program on your own. At the very least, you may be required to give the company information about where you bought the software, which may be the only way to avoid being sued.
4. Counterfeit software can destroy your computer
Some programs are incompatible with others on your computer, meaning that they will not work correctly and can even slow down the system. This may be the least of your worries, though, as some programs come with viruses attached. The minute you add the software to your computer, you may be allowing hackers to either steal private information, or simply destroy your system from the inside out. Buying legitimate software from a trusted seller can greatly reduce this possibility.
Clearly, it is worth your time to research a company before you buy software. Otherwise, you could be putting yourself and your computer at risk, or at least wasting your money on software that doesn’t work.
